New-Construction Walkthrough Checklist

Use this as a note-taking aid during a walkthrough. Follow your builder’s process and ask the appropriate inspector or construction professional about technical concerns.

• Bring your contract documents, options list, and questions.
• Confirm which walkthrough stage this is and what will happen afterward.
• Test doors, windows, cabinets, and included appliances as permitted.
• Note visible finish concerns, incomplete items, or questions for the builder.
• Ask how systems, shutoffs, warranties, and maintenance instructions are provided.
• Photograph items you want to discuss and record the room/location.
• Ask for a written process and timeline for addressing agreed items.
• Keep copies of builder, inspection, warranty, and closing information.
